| One of the hardest things about being an indie author is marketing. Today I share a story of how deciding to go in a new direction provided an opportunity for a “wink” from the Universe that it was the right direction. |
| Radio! Radio! A while back I messaged several local radio stations about doing a giveaway of copies of “A Haunting at Hawthorn” around St. Patrick’s Day but heard nothing back. Yesterday I decided to go out of my comfort zone and call one…I was informed that they didn’t do free giveaways; promotions were tied to paid advertising campaigns. Not what I wanted to hear, but I continued on to talk to the marketing person. As I explained that my “ghost stories” were not scary, but more about healing from grief, closure when a loved one dies, justice for the wronged, she confided that her mother had just passed away two weeks ago. The example I shared was from book three, “Buried Secrets.” I asked her if she had heard about the Magdalene Laundries. Her response? She’d just watched Cillian Murphy’s movie, Small Things Like These and had been very moved by it. What are the odds that she had seen that obscure film from 2024? It was a sign that I was talking to the right person. Then I discovered we were kindred spirits in that we had the same number of children of the same sexes. Icing on the cake—she was a Noni too!So I am moving forward with a campaign to get my books in front of more readers. I feel these stories truly can help heal and comfort from our grief at the death of a loved one. I would love to hear if they have helped you in this way. By the way…I highly recommend this film. Be prepared to be torn up inside, though… |
