How it began

I would like to take full credit for We Are Shadows: An Irish Ghost Story but I feel like I was just following Moira and her sisters around and writing down their conversations. Although strictly a work of fiction —all characters are wholly the work of my imagination — many of the names are taken from my Irish ancestry. Thomas and Ellen (Kiely) Connolly were indeed my great-grandparents. Thomas and his brother, Cornelius, did go to the Klondike for several years during the Alaskan Gold Rush. (Alas, they did not return with fortunes.)

And although the incidents of visitations from the Otherworld are also fictional, some are based on actual events that either I have experienced, have been told to me by people I know and trust, or are of historic veracity.

Welcome to the Otherworld, separated from this one by a very thin veil!

Voices for We Are Shadows

“We Are Shadows: An Irish Ghost story, is engaging with its suspense-laden atmosphere and gripping action sequences, … eerie entities, mysterious haunted homes and the eternal struggle of light versus dark.
A memorable journey that any reader with a penchant for the supernatural should not hesitate to embark upon.”
We Are Shadows is a thrilling read divided into four interconnected parts. The events unfold in Ireland, and Park offers us insights into the dark periods of the history of Ireland, like the Great Famine and the social injustice that followed. The binding elements of the book’s four parts are kindness and compassion. Moira is always ready to help those who reach out to her, be it her next-door neighbor or a ghost from the other side of the veil. Gail touches on the importance of family connections: Nana Brigid may be dead, but she watches over her granddaughters constantly. We Are Shadows has an appealing writing style and a captivating plotline with many unpredictable twists.”

“Right from the start, I was pulled into the story as the first case unfolded. I loved the descriptions the author wrote regarding the Irish countryside. She included a glossary of common Irish terms used throughout the book so any reader could easily follow along and understand the slang. To me, this made the book even more authentic, and I truly felt that I was standing on Ireland’s soil … I had to keep reminding myself that this was a fictional story and not a nonfiction account of the Gallagher sisters’ lives. This is the first book in a new series, A Gallagher Girls Mystery. I really enjoyed “We Are Shadows: An Irish Ghost Story” by Ms. Grant Park, and I look forward to reading more of her work in this entertaining paranormal mystery series. I highly recommend it!
